The location of Roses

You can find the town in the province of Girona in Costa Brava- It shares borders with Palau-saverdera, La Selva de Mar, El Port de la Selva, Cadaqués and Castelló d’Empúries. It is an important fishing port and tourist centre.

Can you rent a yacht in Roses – do I need a license?

Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters and gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Roses, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. You need to have the original copies with you on-board, so don’t forget to take them.
To sail in Spain, one of the following qualifications is necessary: • ICC (International Certificate of Competence), International, with valid Navigational and VHF licenses Prerequisites: RYA “Day Skipper Course” or complete the ICC Assessment form to prove competence from previous experience.

Port of Roses

There berths for around 485 vessels in the new port. 374 of them are preserved for yachts docking there permanently, while the others are for yachts passing through. The entrance is nearly 70 metres wide and there is a depth of 9 metres here, while in other places, the minimum depth is 3, 5 metres. The port has modern services and great amenities

Port of Empuriabrava (Roses)

They often refer to the city as “The Venice of Spain”. One of the largest ports of the world can be found here, with 5, 000 moorings for locals and visitors. 700 of these are preserved for tourists, and can accept 26 metre-long yachts. The place offers modern facilities and equipment. For instance, if you are hungry, you can choose from 50 restaurants.

Club Nàutic Estartit

This port is located in the L’Estartit resort. It has 643 berths for yachts up to 32 metres in size. The port has a depth of 2.3 metres. There are a number of excellent services available. There is also a bar and a restaurant. L’Estartit sailing

Port de Blanes

Port Vell

Barcelona is one of the most important port cities in the Mediterranean. The Port Vell can accommodate 148 vessels up to 190 metres long yachts. Drinking water, electricity and cable TV are available

Club Nautic Cambrils

Thanks to the reforms implemented in recent years, the club has two parts. It can accommodate up to 426 yachts between 8 metres and 25 metres in size. Moreover, eight premises cover various yacht maintenance and repair services. There is a 24-hour crew service. The main sights to see in Roses

If you love nature, we recommend the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l’Empordà-t and the Cap de Creus National Park. The first one is special, because it is the second-largest wetland providing a habitat for many species. The latter has spectacular rocky formations, wonderful bays and beautiful little islands.

Interested in history? Then you should definitely see the La Ciutadella military fort, the Castle of La Trinitat from the 16th century and the Megalithic complex. The latter has giant rocks, and they still haven’t finished its excavation completely.

The gastronomy of Roses

The cuisine of Roses is characterised both by tradition and creativity; its gastronomy is mainly based on fresh fish. Olive oil, honey, anchovy and the finest meats are also dominant in the region. The traditional dish in town, for instance, is the “Suquet de Peix de Roses”. You can find great restaurants here such as Pasko’s Balkan Grill or Martelo Bistro. Both of them offers delicious dishes, great service and fair prices.

Beaches in Roses

Platja de Roses

This is one of the most frequently visited beaches in town. It is nearly 2 kilometres long, and has a certificate. The boardwalk with its palm trees is a perfect spot for relaxing and a nice walk.

Platja de la Punta

This smaller, 550-metre-long beach can also be found around the centre. It has fine sand and crystal clear waters. There are many visitors during the main season. The beach has a certificate as well.

Platja de Santa Margarida

This cosy beach is also among the most popular ones thanks to its 650-metre-long sandy beach and clear waters. Lifeguards provide the safety of swimmers, and there is a bar, a restaurant and a playground for kids. They have great sports opportunities such as beach volleyball, paddleboat, surfing and kayaking.

Which period is best to sail in Roses?

Roses has a pleasant Mediterranean climate. This means dry summers and mild winters. The period between June and September is the driest. On warm days, the breeze from the direction of the Adriatic Sea provides some cool. If you want to avoid the hot period, visiting in May or October is also a good idea, as the average temperature is between 20 and 25 °C.
