Location of Skopelos

Skopelos is located in the centre of the Sporades archipelago. Its western neighbour is Skiathos, and you can find Alonnisos to the east.

Can you rent a yacht in Skopelos- do I need a license? The requirements.

Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters and gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Skopelos, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. You need to have the original copies on board, so don’t forget to take them.
To sail in Greece, one of the following qualifications is necessary: • ICC (International Certificate of Competence), International, with valid Navigational and VHF licenses, Prerequisites: RYA “Day Skipper Course” or complete the ICC Assessment form to prove competence from previous experience.• IPC (International Proficiency Certificate), America, Prerequisites: ASA 104 or US Sailing “Bareboat Cruising Course” OR: • NauticEd SLC (International Sailing License and Credentials), International, • UK – RYA Day Skipper practical, • USA – US Sailing “Bareboat Cruising Course”, ASA “104 Bareboat Cruising Course” or above, • Germany – “Sportbootführerschein See“ or above, • Belgium – Algemeen Stuurbrevet/ Brevet de conduite général, • France – LE PERMIS PLAISANCE

Yacht charter Skopelos – the main ports

The marina in the capital of Skopelos is a great starting point for boat trips to explore the Sporades. The southern marina of Alonnisos is very close, so you can reach your destination even if you set sail in the afternoon.

Loutraki Marina

You can find this port in the northwestern part of Skopelos, in the town of Loutraki. They accommodate boats with a length of up to 60 metres and a draught of up to 4 metres. They do not offer a wide variety of services, but we will still have the opportunity to replenish our water supplies and buy groceries.

Limin Skopélou Marina

This tiny marina can be found on the eastern side of Skopelos, in the city which bears the same name. The accommodated boats with a maximum length of 60 metres and a draught of 6 metres. They have all the basic services; they provide water, boat service and fuel, and they also have restaurants.

Skopelos awaits you with beautiful pine forests, great beaches, and picturesque towns! This island is an excellent starting point for exploring the inhabited islands of the Sporades. Make sure to visit this dreamy island!

Main sights in Skopelos

There are to major towns on the island, Skopelos (the capital with the same name as the island) and Glossa. Skopelos is a beautiful town with whitewashed houses, gorgeous little cottages with red roofs, and narrow, winding streets. You can discover many churches and monasteries in the town and in the region. The Venetian castle on the hill is particularly interesting, offering wonderful views of the coast. If you want to go hiking, visit the graves of pirates on the nearby Mount Karia! In the northern part of the island you can find the Gourouni lighthouse, built-in 1889.

Gastronomy of Skopelos

You can try many delicious meals on the island. First of all, sample the locally made cheese! These are mainly used in cheese pies and cakes with different flavours. Custard is a popular dessert. The island has rich fishing traditions, so you can find a variety of seafood and fish dishes in the restaurants. Plums also grow in abundance here, from which locals make the syrupy Damaskino Avgato dessert.

Beaches in Skopelos

Stafilos beach

Stafilos is the most popular pebble beach on the island of Skopelos, but only part of it is organized, the other part is completely unspoilt. A little further from the beach, there is a fish tavern. On one side of the beach, there are sun loungers and beach bars, making this area a little more crowded. If you are craving some peace and quiet, choose the other part of the beach.

Milia beach

This beach is similar to the previous one. The main difference is that Milia is a beautiful white sandy beach. It is in the northern part of the island, embraced by pine trees. You can buy a refreshing cocktail at the beach bar, and you can also rent sun loungers and beach umbrellas. The water deepens slowly. A little further from the beach you can swim and dive freely.

Adrina beach

If you are looking for a secluded, yet clean beach, the pebbly Adrina is a great choice! You can reach it by boat or on foot from Panormos, so it is not too crowded. The water deepens slowly, which makes it perfect for families with small children.

Glysteri beach

You will find this pebbly-sandy beach in a small bay north of the capital. It is well-protected against winds thanks to its location. The beautiful, crystal clear greenish water deepens slowly, making it perfect for families with small children.

The climate of Skopelos is almost identical to the climate of the southern islands. Mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers alternate. In winter, the average temperature is 4-5 degrees. Summer heat peaks around July and August. The average daily temperature can reach up to 28-30 degrees, but the peak can be as high as 33-34 degrees. The sea is warmest in July and August, reaching 24 degrees. In summer, a northern wind blows in the evenings.
