Royal Phuket Marina

The Royal Phuket Marina is one of the most convenient bases for sailing around Phuket. Boaters can find all the basic services here: fuel, maintenance, water and electricity connections, and a safe anchorage. It is a good place to prepare your boat for longer trips to Phang Nga Bay or the Phi Phi Islands. There are also several boat shops and grocery stores near the marina, making it easy to stock up.

Ao Po Grand Marina

Ao Po Grand Marina is an ideal base for sailing with luxury yachts and charter boats. After docking, it is worth assessing the condition of the boat, filling it with fuel and water, and then heading to Phang Nga Bay. As a boater, it is important to check the anchoring regulations, as anchoring opportunities are limited in the bays frequented by tourists. It is worth arriving early to find a safe place for the boat and to take advantage of the morning silence for photography and swimming.

Similan Islands

The Similan Islands are a paradise for diving enthusiasts. It is worth planning your trip in advance, as the islands are further from Phuket (60-70 nm) and the boat must have enough fuel, water and food. Bring appropriate equipment for snorkeling and diving, and use eco-friendly sunscreen to protect the environment. Boating tip: anchor in protected bays and follow the rules of the national park.

Racha Islands (Racha Yai & Racha Noi)

The Racha Islands are ideal for short weekend trips. As a boater, it is worth dropping anchor near the main beaches and then snorkeling at the coral reefs. Racha Noi is a calmer, quieter place to relax. You can taste fresh seafood in the restaurants near the islands, or you can cook from the boat.

Koh Yao Islands (Koh Yao Noi & Koh Yao Yai)

Koh Bon and Coral Island are ideal for short getaways from Phuket. You can take short walks around the island, and there are kayak rentals, paddleboarding and water games available in the area. These islands are perfect for day trips or a quick break at sea. Anchor in the sheltered bays and then snorkel the surrounding coral reefs.

Dry Season – November to April
This is the best time to sail. From late November onwards, the weather gradually becomes drier, winds are more predictable and the seas calmer. The peak season is from December to March, when temperatures range from 28 to 32°C, humidity is moderate and sea visibility is excellent. In April, the air becomes hotter and more humid, signaling the start of the monsoon, but sailing can still be pleasant.

Wet (Monsoon) Season – May to October
In May, the southwest monsoon gradually brings the rainy season. The wettest months are usually September and October, when showers are more frequent and sea waves can be stronger. At this time, offshore sailing is less recommended, but the east coast, especially Phang Nga Bay, is often still sheltered and safe for short trips. Temperatures range from 26 to 31 °C throughout the year, so the heat is constant, only the wind and rainfall vary.
