Lefkada’s weather for sailing

Lefkada offers excellent weather conditions for sailing, especially in the warmer months. The number one sailing season lasts from the end of April to the beginning of October. During this period, the weather is warm, the wind is usually reliable and predictable, so it is also recommended for beginner sailors. July and August are the busiest months, with the warmest temperatures and the most consistent winds. The prevailing wind in the Ionian Sea in summer is the Maestro (Mistral), which is a northwesterly wind. It typically starts in the afternoon, providing excellent conditions for sailing. The Maestro usually blows with medium strength, between 10-20 knots, making it ideal for sailing. Mornings are often calm, with the wind gradually increasing in the afternoon and peaking in the late afternoon. While they are more common in the Aegean Sea, the Meltemi winds can occasionally affect the Ionian Islands, including Lefkada. These winds are stronger and blow from the north and usually occur in July and August. Summer temperatures are between 25°C and 35°C and the sea temperature is between 24°C and 28°C. The warm weather provides pleasant sailing and swimming conditions.
