Main sights and beaches in Costa Smeralda

Porto Cervo

It turned into the best luxury holiday resort of Europe throughout times. A place that celebrities also visit quite often. Specially constructed exclusive villas and hotel bend perfectly with the greenery of nature. It’s worth taking a walk in the city port, where you might get the chance to meet some celebrities like Roberto Cavalli or Steven Spielberg who have their giant luxury yachts waiting for them here. The port is also outstanding as the best-equipped port of the Mediterranean Sea. It can host 500 boats and it’s a place for sailing competitions from May to September. Don’t forget to visit the special, snow-white church of Porto Cervo which they built combining the elements of Sardinian and modern architecture. O Thursdays you can visit an artists’ market to view the merchandise of local artists and salesmen.

Capriccioli

Capriccioli lies 8 km east from Cala di Volpe on the southern part of Porto Cervo. It’s a small beach fenced from the wind surrounded by Mediterranean bushes. The water is shallow, remarkably clean, and always very calm. Thus, many families with kids choose this place to relax. Granite rocks divide the shore into two sections. Everything necessary is accessible on the beach: restaurants, bars, showers, changing tables. It’s easily accessible so don’t miss it! From here you can see small groups of islands on the sea, Soffi and Le Camere for example. An island you can access even by swimming is Mortorito, which is a natural oasis, the real wild paradise. It could be an unforgettable experience for adventurers.

La Maddalena

It’s a small island accessible by ferryboat. It’s full of gulfs and charming tiny beaches. A 20 km long road goes through it, one of the nicest in Costa Smeralda, which allows visitors to explore gorgeous sections of the shore. There are other smaller islands around La Maddalena. For example, Caprera, which is connected to its neighbour by a 2 km long bridge. Or the beautiful Spargi, and the famous Budelli, also known as pink beach.

Piccolo & Grande Pevero

The beautiful, smooth white sandy beach with its emerald water lies only 3 km for Porto Cervo. The “small” section is 120 m long while the “big” is 300 m. Clean sand and huge walls of rock create a breath-taking background. The water is shallow and deepens slowly, making it excellent for small children as well. Lovers of water sports have the opportunity of renting a canoe, jet ski or paddleboat.

Liscia Ruja

Thick Mediterranean bush surrounds the otherwise amber coloured shore. It’s interesting how amber can turn into pink depending on the lighting. The water flashes every colour from turquoise to emerald. A cart-road goes here with trees and shrubs along with it. The shore consists of consecutive gulfs, the smell of juniper and white lily fill the air. In case you wish to relax in the company of a book and a cocktail, you can rent a deck chair and beach umbrella. However, if you’re looking to relax actively, canoes, kayaks, and rafts are available for rent. It’s the longest section of shore in Costa Smeralda, hence the name Long Beach. The crystal clear water and beautiful landscape is an incomparable place for luxury yachts.

Principe

It was the favourite beach of Arabic prince, Karim Aga Khan. It’s still among the 20 most beautiful beaches worldwide. The white sand has stunning scenery around next to a headland of pink granite. Its beauty is due to the line pink rocks and dense greenery between two sections of smooth sand. Granite is the reason the Carib looking blue water, which you could best describe as a mosaic of white, pink, green, emerald, light blue, and turquoise. Photos and descriptions cannot properly illustrate how beautiful this place is. You need to see it in person.

Costa Smeralda welcomes visitors with smooth, white sand, emerald sea, romantic gulfs, and bizarre rock formations. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate you can bath in the sea in spring and early months of fall as well. The weather is also most suitable for trips at that time. In case you’re planning an Italian round trip or just wish to relax in breath-taking scenery, don’t forget to visit this place.

Costa Smeralda has a classic Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. It is worth visiting from May to October, as it is proper summer in this period. If we are planning an active recreation, we might want to travel there in May, June, September or October. During these months, the average temperature is 25–27°C, making sightseeing more pleasant than in the hot days of July or August.
