Which period is best to sail in Thailand?

Thailand has a tropical monsoon climate and is characterized by strong monsoon influences. Generally, the area of Thailand north of Bangkok has a climate determined by three seasons while the southern peninsular region of Thailand does rather have a dry and a wet period. The annual average temperature ranges from around 22°C to 28°C year-round.

In more detail, the hot season lasts from March to May or June with temperatures around 30°C. A rainy season caused by the southwest monsoon generally runs from June to October. It is followed by a dry and relatively cool season from November to February, when the northeast monsoon prevails, with temperature from 18 to 32 °C. In July and August, the eastern part of peninsular Thailand, that is the coast facing the Gulf of Thailand, has usually an acceptable climate. It is sheltered from the most intense monsoon rains and also from tropical cyclones.

From November to February when the northeast monsoon is blowing cool, dry air that serves as a respite from the heat. In the northern and northeast Thailand, temperatures around 20 °C. From July to October is the monsoon, when most of Thailand’s annual rainfall is accumulated and flooding can ravage the country. Southern parts get by far the most rain, compared with the central and northern regions. The monsoon finishes when the wind direction changes, bringing dry weather from the northeast.
