Sailing out from under the honey-coloured ramparts of Dubrovnik is the sort of departure that sets the tone for a week. The green Elafiti islands lie just north, and Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is a short drive south of the old city, with Split (SPU) the longer way in. After handover, Lopud or the Zaton bay makes a first night close to base, well sheltered unless the sirocco is blowing up from the south. You reach the Elafiti, forested Mljet with its two salt lakes, and vineyard-clad Korčula in a week, none more than a day’s sail apart. The bigger commitment is south into Montenegro, which adds open water and a border clearance, so if you take it, plan the return with a day in hand. Lastovo, further out to sea, and that Montenegrin coast need the extra days a week can’t give.
