Sailing out from under the honey-coloured ramparts of Dubrovnik is the sort of departure that sets the tone for a week. After handover, Lopud or the Zaton bay makes a first night close to base, well sheltered unless the sirocco is blowing up from the south. The bigger commitment is south into Montenegro, which adds open water and a border clearance, so if you take it, plan the return with a day in hand.
