Halkidiki is three green peninsulas reaching south into the north Aegean, and the sailing is really a choice among them: the island-dotted Vourvourou lagoon on Sithonia, the beach resorts of Kassandra, and the forbidden monastic shore of Athos. If the handover leaves daylight and the meltemi is not up, Sithonia’s sheltered Vourvourou bays are a close first anchorage; a late finish is better held at the base. Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) is a 60–100-minute road transfer, with Kavala (KVA) further east. Sithonia, the Toroneos Gulf and the Kassandra coast are a week of mostly protected sailing; only the open gulf mouths catch the afternoon breeze, so keep the return on the sheltered side. Mount Athos can only be looked at from offshore, never entered; the outer gulfs and the run toward the Sporades are the exposed extension, beyond a single week.
