Just south-east of Split and its Roman palace, Podstrana looks straight across the channel to Šolta and Brač, with Hvar a little beyond. If the handover leaves enough daylight, the first hop is an easy one over to Šolta or the near side of Brač; otherwise it is better to start in the morning. Split Airport (SPU) is a 30–55-minute road transfer, and Zadar (ZAD) is the longer drive to the north. Inside a week you can loop round Šolta, Brač and Hvar through sheltered channels, the islands close together and the harbours a short hop apart.
