The location of El Masnou

The port town is located on the northern part of Barcelona Province on the Costa del Maresme coastline. El Masnou is bordered with Teià, Premià de Mar, Montgat and Alella.

The history of El Masnou

A Roman village, Cal Ros de les Cabres was one of the first settlements situated on the current site of El Masnou. Vineyards and cultivating leguminous crops always played a significant role in the town’s agriculture.
Nowadays, El Masnou is renowned for its flowers, especially carnations and the textile industry is also of main importance.

The climate of El Masnou

The town enjoys a pleasant, temperate climate, with August being the hottest and January the coldest month. If you are a beach bum, we advise you to visit between the end of June and end of September.
However, if you are interested in various touristic outdoor activities, El Masnou has a lot to offer right until the end of October.

Main attractions around El Masnou

Do you fancy exploring nature? Then visit the Montseny Natural Park close to Barcelona. Catalonia’s highly protected natural park is lined with excellent hiking trails and awaits hikers with abundant flora and diverse fauna. El Masnou cherishes architectural monuments of different designs: neoclassicist, modernist, noucentista and eclectic characteristics are all represented. We highly recommend visiting Casa de la Vila (City Hall) and the Casa del Marquès del Masnou Palace. These are just some of the town’s must-see attractions.

El Masnou’s cuisine

When in El Masnou, you will be spoilt for choice; you can sample some traditional Catalan dishes as well as some international pièces de résistance.
We particularly recommend the Tresmacarrons Vermut Restaurant, renowned for its delicious meals, cosy atmosphere and excellent service.

Beaches in El Masnou

Ocata Beach

The largest beach of this enchanting town is located to the East of the port. Ocata Beach stretches for 2500 m and is 133 m wide and for its crystal-clear waters, it has been awarded the Blue Flag.
Don’t worry, there are several restaurants around if you get hungry and you will also find other amenities including showers and sports facilities. The little ones won’t get bored either as there are special child-friendly areas devoted to them.
Moreover, there is also a lifeguard team to secure the safety of visitors.

Platja del Masnou

Only a few steps away from El Masnou’s train station lies the town’s other famous beach, Platja del Masnou.
Although smaller in size–1100 m long and 25 m wide–, Platja del Masnou, just like Ocata Beach, boasts fantastic services: showers, sun lounger rental and lifeguard service. From the various available water sports activities, we recommend trying surfing.
