Renting a boat in the Balearic & discovering Mallorca’s, Ibiza’s, or Menorca’s Coasts? The Balearic Islands are not just a destination on the map – they are more of a feeling. They are hidden somewhere in the western corner of the Mediterranean Sea, yet you feel like you are in the middle of the world when you first catch sight of a turquoise bay off the coast of Mallorca or anchor off the snow-white sandy beaches of Formentera. Can you rent a yacht in Balearic- do I need a license? The requirements.

Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters and gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Balearic, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. You need to have the original copies on board, so don’t forget to take them.
To sail in Spain, one of the following qualifications is necessary: • ICC (International Certificate of Competence), International, with valid Navigational and VHF licenses Prerequisites: RYA “Day Skipper Course” or complete the ICC Assessment form to prove competence from previous experience.
If you do not have a skipper license, it is also possible to rent a boat with a skipper

The most popular ports for yachts in Mallorca

Puerto de Palma (Mallorca)

You can find one of the largest ports of the Adriatic Sea here. This commercial port, including 9 yacht marinas can accept thousands of yachts. It is protected by a one-mile-long breakwater from the southeast, while it is bordered by a commercial mole from the northeast, which is more than half a mile long. Inside this area, the allowed speed for any vessel is 5 knots, while inside the yacht marinas it is 3 knots. boat rental Palma de Mallorca

Port d’Alcúdia (Mallorca)

The port is located in the northeast of Mallorca. The port manages to maintain a balance between its traditional fishing roots and its modern appeal as a tourist hub. It has two separate areas. Puerto Viejo (Old port): This area has preserved the charm of a traditional fishing port, used by fishing boats. Alcudiamar (New port): This is a modern port lined with leisure yachts, with shops, restaurants, bars and cafes surrounding the piers.yacht rental Alcudia

Port de Cala d’Or (Mallorca)

Yacht charter Menorca – the main ports

Port of Ciutadella (Menorca)

This port is in a narrow fjord. It can accept yachts of a maximum of 20 meters. It provides full service with fuel options. Although it has its own opening time, so check it well before your cruise.

Port of Mahon (Menorca)

The city’s port is famous for its depth. At certain places, the distance from the bed is 30 metres. It is naturally formed and found in a fjord. Since it means complete protection, it has been served like that for thousands of years. The port has two terminals; one has berths for yachts of 6, and the other for 50 metres. There is a 24-hour security service and all other necessary facilities for boatmen. There is also electricity and water supply, taxi, laundry and pubs. They provide water, electricity and fuel in the protected place. You can eat nearby, and there is also a supermarket. sailing in Mao Mahon, yacht charter Menorca

The most popular ports for yachts Ibiza

Sant Antoni Marina (Ibiza)

The marina is located on the west coast of Ibiza, in the heart of the popular town of Sant Antoni de Portmany. It is one of the most popular ports in the Balearic Islands. Mooring fees vary depending on the season, being lower in the low season (January 1 to May 31 and October 1 to December 31) and higher in the summer peak season (June 1 to September 30). There are world-famous bars, cafes and restaurants here, with stunning views of the Ibiza sunset.

Marina de Formentera (Ibiza)

The smallest member of the Balearic Islands, Formentera, can only be accessed from Ibiza by boat. There are 64 moorings, and the maximum allowed length of boats is 38 metres. They provide water, electricity and technical services. yacht hire Ibiza

Spring (March – May):
If you ask me, spring is one of the best times to visit – especially in May. There are no crowds of tourists, the ports are quiet, nature is in full swing, and there is something incredibly peaceful about being the first to splash around at anchor in the morning. The days are pleasantly warm (18-24°C), and the winds are predictable but not too strong. It’s ideal if you want to relax and explore the islands in peace.

Summer (June – August):
Summer is probably the most popular for a reason. Everything is really alive, everything is open, and the nights are just as memorable as the days. The temperature often hovers around 35°C, the sea water is almost pool temperature, and the wind… well, it’s mostly a gentle sea breeze, which makes for beautiful sailing days, although sometimes you might need a motor. If you come during this time, book your berth in advance – Ibiza and Mallorca in particular fill up quickly.

Autumn (September – November):
There’s something particularly beautiful about the Balearic Islands in autumn. The days are still long, the water is warmer than you might think in September, and most of the boats have already headed home. If you’re into serious sailing, this is your time. Around October and November, the winds pick up, offering the perfect challenge for experienced sailors – while the islands are still fabulous, just not crowded with tourists.

Winter (December – February):
Winter? Quiet. Peace with a capital letter. Many places close at this time and the days are indeed shorter, but if you’re not looking for the excitement of summer, but rather the closeness of nature, the starry sky from the deck, and the tranquillity of deserted bays, then it’s worth getting on a boat in winter too. 10-15°C days, stronger winds, changeable weather – not for beginners, but wonderful in its own way.
