History of Pirovac

According to legends, it was called the “wicked village” a while ago, because locals poured oil on the invading Turks from the town wall. Makirina bay is one of the most beautiful bays in Pirovac. Its beach is most famous among swimmers for its healing mud. Main attractions in Pirovac
Pirovac is a place of calmness and leisure, but don’t think that you’re in a boring town. Pirovac has a rich history and hiking programs and local gastronomy is also famous. The typical local cherry type Maraska is used to make both liqueurs and cocktails.
The town wall that dates back to the 16th century served town defence from four sides. Today you can only see the ruins of the northern side that makes you remember the town’s history.
Visit Croatia’s largest natural lake, which is only a little further than 20 km from Pirovac. The lake is 14 km long and hosts almost 250 species of birds.
Saint Stephen Island:
Discover the ruins of a Roman age settlement on Saint Stephen Island in front of the town. Visit the picturesque island of Sustipanac, where you can also admire a partly preserved monastery from the Middle Ages.
