The best period to go sailing in Mykonos

The climate of Mykonos is quite similar to that of the other members of the Cyclades. It has typical Mediterranean features. It is mild and rainy from October to March, with a fair amount of sunshine. From April, however, the sailing season begins. In the spring, winds are milder as well, and the climate is very pleasant. It is worth visiting the area in this period too since all the islands are covered in green due to the winter precipitation.

The rich vegetation ends with a summer heatwave; the amount of green significantly decreases by July. The mid average annual temperature is between 29 and 30°C. It is only by the Meltemi wind that relieves the region from the hot afternoons. It blows from June to the end of September continuously. This makes the place suitable for surfers. Surfing is more challenging in the northern parts, but if you like cruising, you’ll love it. We also recommend that you travel in the morning hours, as the Meltemi gets stronger in the afternoon.

Ports in Mykonos

There are two ports in the region of Mykonos. One of them is in Tourlos, and the other is in the city of Mykonos. We are now going to introduce you to both of them.

New Port of Mykonos

The new port of Mykonos was established two kilometres to the north from the city, in Tourlos. Charter boats leave for the other members of the Cyclades from here. The port can be used for touristic purposes. They accept yachts with a length of up to 25 metres, and the depth of water at the port is 3–5 metres. The port has complete infrastructure: they offer electricity, running water, security service and a petrol station.

Old Port of Mykonos

The old port is located in the heart of the city. Everyone used to use it until 15 years ago; even ferries departed from here. The enhanced traffic was too much for the small port, so another one had to be established. There are only a few luxury yachts, smaller sailboats and fishing boats here today. It is worth inquiring about free spots in advance, as the port is often full. It is interesting rather because of its atmosphere; there is no complete infrastructure here. Water and electricity, and a few taverns provide comfort for the traveller.rent a boat in Mykonos

One-week-long Mykonos sailing trip around the island

The Aegean Sea is a popular destination. The several hundred tiny islands constitute a dream world that enchants even the most experienced sailors who have seen it all. The island will guarantee nice relaxation regardless of whether you go with friends or family. If you would like to go sailing in Mykonos, we will show you a plan for a one-week-long trip!Sailing itinerary Mykonos

Day 1: Mykonos – Delos (Psarou Beach)

9, 38 km (5, 83 nm)
Leave for the island of Delos from the port of Mykonos. Admire the ancient old city with the palace of Hercules and Apollo. If you have seen everything, return to the southern shores of the island of Mykonos, Psarou Beach. There is a great berth in the bay. This is the most elegant beach on these shores where celebrities often turn up as well. The bars and restaurants are exquisite. Evenings are made memorable by beach parties with music.

Day 2: Psarou Beach – Paradise Beach

10, 24 km (6, 36 nm)
Go further towards the west in the southern part of the island. Paradise Bay is located a few kilometres away. The club on this beach is the 17th on the list of the world’s best ones. They have excellent bars and restaurants on the shores. Party begins early in the afternoon, and people usually dance on the sandy beach until the morning. The water here is very clean and shallow.

Day 3: Paradise Beach – Kalafati

0, 61 km (6, 59 nm)
Our next destination is quieter but still very exciting bay. Passing by the beach of Elia, you should head for Kalafati! This beach has less to offer in terms of equipment; it’s usually visited mostly by surfers. Thanks to the Meltemi wind from the north, there is constant and stable air movement, making the spot ideal to do your favourite watersport. There are restaurants here as well, even though not directly on the beach.

Day 4: Kalafati – Fokos

12, 42 km (7, 72 nm)
If you want to spend your day in peace, you should go to Fokos, located on the northern shores of the island. It has a beautiful and unspoiled beach with practically no infrastructure. There are not many visitors even during the main season, so you can surely enjoy the sunshine in peace. They have two restaurants at the end of the beach with fresh dishes on the menu. You can find two other bays near Fokos that are perfect for snorkelling.boating in Mykonos

Day 5: Fokos – Ftelia

8, 07 km (5, 01 nm)
Ftelia is situated in the largest bay of the island. It is a wonderful and secluded shore segment in peace and quiet. It is unique as there is a neolithic town excavated in the middle of the beach. Sit on the 7, 000-year-old stones and listen to the birds.

Day 6: Ftelia – Tinos

23, 71 km (14, 73 nm)
If you have had enough rest, you can go even further! Look for the port of the neighbouring island, Tinos. There are countless bars, cafés and restaurants here. Walk the paved streets of the tiny town and admire the snow-white buildings that are hundreds of years old. The island is populated by picturesque villages, and we can see the works of famous marble-carvers everywhere.

Day 7: Tinos – Ermoupoli (Siros island) – Mykonos

56, 06 km (34, 83 nm)
Before returning to Mykonos, take a short detour to Ermoupoli. It is definitely worth visiting the Agios Nikolaos Church and the Archaeological Museum of Siros.
In Mykonos, after dropping the yacht off, a lot of programs are waiting for you, you will definitely not be bored. Do you want a real outdoor sea party? Don’t miss Super Paradise Beach, where guests are invited to party with loud music. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a quiet, peaceful stretch of beach, we recommend the lesser-known Panormos beach on the north side of the island. The family-friendly Platys Gialos beach with lots of hotels can be another excellent choice. Must-see attractions are the windmills found in several places on the island. Also be sure to visit the Little Venice district, where the buildings are located right next to the sea.
