What is the best month to sail from Biograd na Moru?
Spring (March-May):
The weather is mild, gradually warming up; temperatures are 12-22°C. Winds are more variable; spring storms can occur. Watch for Bora (cold, stormy NE wind) and Sirocco (warm SE wind). The sea is still cool in early spring, warming up later. Sailing conditions are increasingly favorable from late April; fewer tourists.
Summer (June-August):
The weather is hot and dry, with temperatures of 25-35°C. Winds are light in the morning, sea breezes (maestral) in the afternoon, with occasional storms. The sea is calm or moderate, with temperatures of ~24-27°C. Sailing conditions are ideal for cruising; stable weather, clear skies and warm water. This is the peak tourist season, so the ports can be crowded.
Autumn (September-November):
Air temperatures are still warm in autumn; by November they cool down (15-25°C), with more frequent Bora and Sirocco winds. The sea remains warm until mid-October. Sailing conditions are great until early autumn, by November conditions become more unpredictable.
Winter (December-February):
Air is cool to cold (5-15°C), with rain and cloudy days, strong Bora winds are more common. The sea is rougher, the water is cold (~12-14°C). Sailing conditions are challenging and only recommended for experienced sailors. Many marinas and services are unavailable or only limited.
Where to sail from Biograd na Moru? – ports and islands
Some of the islands in the Northern Dalmatian territory are uninhabited, while there are cosy Mediterranean towns with residents on the larger ones. The islands are located parallel to the land in smaller groups. The territory of the islands of Zadar is 378, 7 square miles altogether, which constitutes 11, 9% of the entire territory of Croatian islands. Larges islands include Vir, Ugljan, Pasman and Brigada. The Kornati can be found slightly further – they are the most rugged and popular archipelago of the Mediterranean Sea; the more significant islands are Dugi Otok, Rava, Iz, Sestrunjm Molat, Ist, Skarda, and a little further, Olib, Silba, and Premuda.

The town has two adjoined marinas that share one entrance underwater. Marina Sangulin and Marina Kornati combined has 1, 000 moorings. They are well-equipped and spacious. Marina Zadar
You will find the town’s port in the central part of the shores of the Adriatic, in the centre of Zadar. They have 200 berths and 100 on-land facilities. ACI Marina Žut (Kornati)
The marina, located in the northeastern part of the Kornati archipelago, offers 120 berths for boats up to 40 metres long. They are open between April 1st and October 31st. If the other strong wind, the Jugo is present, it is much more pleasant to anchor on the southern dock.

Sights in Biograd na Moru
A boardwalk starts at the docks where there are several restaurants, cafes and shops. The town was struck by several troublesome historic events, but the old city has remained amazing. The sights are originated as early as in the 19th century, and it’s worth spending half a day visiting them. There is an ethnographic museum in the town where we can admire a collection of items from a commercial yacht that was sunk in 1583.

Day 1: Biograd na Moru – Pirovac

Pirovac is a very cozy seaside town, a real holiday paradise. The old town is built on a small peninsula. There are many medieval buildings in the old town, the castle wall is still intact.
Day 2: Pirovac – Murter – Jezera (Murter Island)
7.15 km (4.44 nm) – 19.17km (21, 78 nm)- total: 26.22 km (16.29 nm)
The largest of the Šibenik archipelago. There are four settlements here, of which Murter and Jezera are older, Tisno and Betina are newer. The island of Murter is known for its beautiful sandy and pebbly blue-flag beaches. There are also a large number of small, hidden coves. The island is hilly and karst. The vineyards, almonds, figs and olive groves on the island are picturesque. Overnight stay in the port of the settlement.
3. Day: Jezera – Tribunj – Vodice

The charming old town with its fishermen’s walls is located on an island. The island is connected to the mainland by a small bridge. Here, sunshine, tranquility and crystal clear sea await you. Tribunj’s biggest celebration is the Fisherman’s Night in July. Vodice is located in a long bay. In addition to its picturesque old town, the area around the well-equipped harbor offers a lot of opportunities. Numerous restaurants and cafes await its guests. It is also popular among young people due to its lively social life.
Day 4 Vodice – Zlarin – Sibenik

The Sibenik archipelago consists of nearly 250 islands and cays. Only a few of these islands are inhabited. You can reach these islands primarily by boat (or ferry). The only way to get around the islands is on foot or by bicycle. The island of Zlarin is the closest to Sibenik. It covers an area of 8 km2, and its typical vegetation is cypress and pine forests, as well as fig and olive trees. You can find beautiful hidden coves and coastlines here, which you can explore. Located at the confluence of the Krka River and the Adriatic Sea, it is the 3rd largest port city in Croatia. The center of Šibenik is located around the wind-protected harbor. Šibenik has wonderful monuments, the most famous of which is the cathedral, which is a World Heritage Site.
Day 5: Šibenik – Skadrin (Krk)

The baroque town of Skadrin is located 17 km from Šibenik, on the Krk River. After mooring at one of the most beautiful harbors in northern Dalmatia, head for the Krk National Park. Boats take visitors to the entrance to the park, where the main attraction is located, the Skradisniki Buk. From here, you can explore the park on foot along the boardwalks. There are 17 waterfalls here, with a drop of 47 m between the first and last. The largest waterfall is 37 m high. Be sure to visit the Roski Slap waterfall and the island of Visovac.
Day 6. Krk – Kaprije

After a day in the Krk National Park, sail to the island of Kaprije. It was named after the caper herb, which is abundant here. Its coastline is 25 km long, with about 20 bays along it. The most famous of these is St. Peter’s Bay, where the marina is located. Put on your hiking boots and climb Gigina Glavica, then visit the church of the island’s patron saint.
Day 7. Kaprije – Vrgada – Biograd na Moru

On your last day, return to Biograd na Moru. Before that, it is worth making a short detour to Vrgada. The island awaits its visitors with excellent air, shady pine forests, and rocky shores. It is worth waiting for handicrafts made from local olives, grapes, and herbs. Biograd is a relatively quiet destination, ideal for families. If you prefer an active vacation, here is perhaps the most modern tennis center on the Adriatic. Every morning on Biograd’s Mediterranean-style seaside promenade, you can watch fishing boats anchor. There is a mini submarine on the side of the harbor, where you can get a glimpse into the mysteries of the underwater world.
