Rogoznica is in Dalmatia, which is among the most beautiful Croatian regions. The town lies about halfway between Sibenik and Trogir, on a peninsula. Earlier it was an island, but eventually, they built a dam connecting it to the mainland. Thus, Rogoznica is divided into an island (Kopara) and the mainland (Kopaca).
The first written evidence of the town is from the first half of the 4th century B.C. when people settled down here for its fortunate climate and location. According to some sources it was the place of the ancient Heraclea, being the most ideal port for trading boats. Around the 16th century, it was connected to the land getting its current form. Since then the port had its constant popularity.

At this time there was a smallpox outbreak in the town, in which many died. In the memory of these people, there’s an annual boat march, when hundreds of boats and thousands of believers march from the parish church to the cape of the Gradina Peninsula. Another remarkable sight of the peninsula is Zmajevo Oko (The Eye of the Dragon), a lake filled with seawater. Its name is due to the fact that from a certain angle it resembles the eye of a waking dragon. The lake itself is 150 m long and 70 m wide.
