Location of Greece

Greece – or officially the Hellenic Republic – is located in southeast Europe in the southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula. Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters and gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Greece, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. What’s the weather like, and what are the sailing winds in Greece?

  • Spring (from April to June):
    Between 15°C and 25°C, mild temperature with blooming landscapes, moderate wind. The weather is warm and pleasant at the beginning of June, with a calm sea – ideal for sailing.
  • Summer (from July to September):
    The air is hot and dry, between 25°C and 35°C. The prevailing wind is the strong Meltemi in the Aegean Sea, especially in July and August. These northerly winds can make conditions rough but exciting even for experienced sailors. The Ionian Sea is typically calmer during this period. In summer, we rarely see clouds in the sky. Rain is practically an unknown guest in the summer months.
  • Autumn (from October to November):
    The temperature is between 15°C and 25°C, the wind is already dying down, and the weather is starting to cool down. This is a more peaceful time for sailing, with less crowded ports.
  • Winter (December to March): Colder air between 10°C and 15°C, unpredictable rainy weather and occasional storms. Sailing is rare during this period, but some experienced sailors may enjoy the solitude and lower costs.
